Devotion Entry - Galatians 3:1-5 (November 18, 2008)

"Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Have you suffered so much for nothing--if it really was for nothing? Does God give you His Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?" Galatians 3:1-5 NIV

All of us Christians were saved by believing, by faith and grace alone through Christ Jesus. We've received the Spirit through these. But because of humans' imperfections, we've replaced the work that the Spirit began in us with our own human efforts. We have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, and so through His love for us and our love for Him, flow out obedience thus we observe the law. But only because we love and we want to please the Lord. Days pass and we'd find ourselves slowly (unconsciously or consciously) forgetting that. We find ourselves pleasing this world instead.. and in the end, never really be contented because we are not of this world! We claim to find full satisfaction in Christ but then we find ourselves compromising and losing the goal that the Spirit worked in us. So may we not open the door to compromise coz once we do, we'd find ourselves doing it more often until eventually we lose what the Spirit began in us. May we fully hold on to the Lord so that we'd stand firm and not be swayed by this corrupt world. Let us do everything according to His commands. Yes, we may suffer and be persecuted... but let it be so in the name of the Lord! For surely we know we haven't suffered so much for nothing!
